nsfas org za Digital Learning Device

Ordering, receiving and using the nsfas org za Digital Learning Device. As part of government’s mission to ensure that challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic do not affect teaching and learning at higher education and training institutions, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, directed NSFAS to procure learning devices for students to ensure that the blended learning methodology is realised. The www nsfas org za Digital Learning Device Programme was then introduced.

This is what to expect once an order for a laptop is processed and the device is delivered:

  • Laptop
  • Laptop Charger
  • Laptop Bag
  • Delivery Receipt

No one other than the student who is approved to receive a laptop may collect the device.

Steps to order & receive laptop

Register:
  • NSFAS funded students at TVET colleges: You must be a continuing student who was registered in 2020 and currently registered to study in 2021.
  • NSFAS funded students at universities: You must be registered to study at any public university; both first-time entering and continuing students may apply for a learning device.
Complete the DLD form:

Collect, complete and submit the Digital Learning Device (DLD) form to your Financial Aid Office (FAO) on campus. Order your laptop on the DLD online order portal via the NSFAS website:

www.nsfas.org.za.

NSFAS along with your institution will verify your details as well as your order.

Collection:
  • Once the verification process is complete, an order for your laptop will be placed with our service providers to dispatch the device for delivery. Once your laptop is ready, you will be called by the laptop service provider or your institution to arrange collection/delivery.
  • Remember, once you are contacted for the delivery and collection of the device, no one can receive/collect the laptop on your behalf, you must be present and also sign before it is handed over to you.
Identification:

You must produce your ID/birth certificate and proof of academic registration/student card from your institution before receiving your device.

Agree to the terms and conditions:

You will be required to agree to the terms and conditions as set out by your institution before receiving your learning device.

Laptop payment:

  • Non-NSFAS funded students who require a device should consult their institutions as they will remain responsible for the payment of the device and must therefore agree to the payment terms as defined by the institution.
  • As a NSFAS funded student, you should upon delivery of the digital learning device, produce a valid ID, proof of registration (or student card) as well as sign the acknowledgement receipt of the digital learning device. You will also be required to agree to the terms and conditions of the device as set out by your institution.

Things you can do with your nsfas org za Digital Learning Device:

For students

1. Use it to communicate with your lecturers and classmates – Keep in contact with classmates and lecturers will be more easier using a laptop. Use your laptop to discuss assignments, tests and to get clarification of tasks from your lecturers online.

2. Learn how to take notes effectively – Taking notes by hand, can be quicker; however, using a laptop can help you present and record your notes neatly.

3. Organise your work – Using a laptop can help you organise and save your work by creating folders.

4. Access your portal – You can now easily access your myNSFAS account through your laptop. Visit the portal to stay in touch with us, and to update your personal details.

5. Connect with the scheme on social media platforms – Visit us on our social media platforms, to stay updated with the latest NSFAS information and announcements.

6. Avoid installing distracting programs – Avoid installing distractive programmes like computer games on your laptop.

Do’s and don’ts nsfas org za Digital Learning Device:

Every initiative has its rules and guidelines that governs it and this latest milestone by NSFAS is no different. To enjoy a long and healthy relationship with your laptop device, there are things you should always remember to do and certain things you should avoid. Keep the tips below in mind and avoid the ‘We told you so’s’.
Don’ts
  • Do not sell your laptop.
  • Do not misuse the device, use and handle it with care.
  • Do not send a friend or relative to collect your laptop on your behalf.
  • Do not install any software on the computer unless it has been approved by your institution’s ICT department.
  • Do not remove any identification labels that are attached to or displayed on the laptop.
  • Do not disable or uninstall the virus protection or device management programs.
  • Always store your laptop in a safe place.
  • Only connect to trusted WIFI networks such as your home or institutions network.
  • Do not leave the laptop in an unlocked car.
  • Do not leave the laptop in a car where it can be easily seen.
  • Do not leave the laptop in a motor vehicle overnight.
  • Do not attempt to repair a damaged or malfunctioning laptop. Universities and the laptop service provider will facilitate all on-site repairs that may be required and provide designated points for such repairs.
  • Do not attempt to upgrade the computer hardware.
  • Do not loan your laptop to anyone.
  • Do not leave the laptop exposed to direct sunlight or extreme heat or cold.
Do’s
  • Position the laptop on a safe surface so it does not drop or fall.
  • Use data wisely by using website links instead of sending large images/files.
  • Live stream content such as videos only when necessary and for educational purposes.
