Requirements for NSFAS
Below are the NSFAS application requirements for all South African students
- Applicant must be a South African Citizen
- All SASSA grant recipients (the SASSA COVID-19 grant does not count);

NSFAS Documents Required for Application
Applicants looking to apply for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme will required to submit the following documents
- A copy of their ID document. Smart ID cards copy with both sides of the smart ID must be provided,
- A temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs
- Non-SASSA applicants must provide ID copies of parents, legal guardian/guardian or spouse,
- Proof of income applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where applicable (non-SASSA) should provide the latest payslip, not older than 3 months, UIF letter appointment letter, retrenchment letter (applicant and/or parent(s) legal guardian/spouse).
- Your own cellphone number and email address
- ID copies of parents, guardian, or spouse (If applicable)
- Your proof of income or 1 year’s IRP5 (Note: no proof of income for SASSA grant recipient)
Note: ID number, Name, and Surname is validated against the Department of Home Affairs database.

- Access the mynsfas login url via my.nsfas.org.za
- Enter your id number and password
- Accept the capture on the form
- Click on the login button to login
- Wait for the platform to authenticate you and redirect to your dashboard

Applicants interested in NSFAS funding will be required to first register for myNSFAS login account using the guidelines below:
- Visit myNSFAS Portal via www.nsfas.org.za
- Navigate to the myNSFAS tab and Click register.
- Tick the box to allow NSFAS to verify your details.
- Enter the ID Number found on your ID document.
- Enter your Full Name and Surname (same as your ID number)
- Enter your current email address and Confirm
- Enter your contact number
- Create a password and confirm the password.
- Upload a copy of your ID.
- Click on the register button.
- An SMS or mail will be sent via the cell number and Email address provided (this OTP expires after 24 hours).
- Enter the OTP code received
- Click on the Submit button.
- Wait for the system to confirm and redirect you.
