UNZA School of Law Postgraduate Programmes 2024
The University of Zambia (UNZA), School of Law is offering the postgraduate programmes. These programmes are available in ALL the Schools and further information may be obtained from the addressees given below or from Assistant Deans (Postgraduate) in the respective Schools.
Candidates for admission to Doctoral Studies should posses a Master’s degree or its equivalent in a relevant field.
UNZA, School of Law is offering the following postgraduate programmes:
1. PH. D – LAW
Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) Degree and a Master of Laws (LL.M) Degree from the University of Zambia or any other recognized university.
Applicants may be subjected to an interview to complete assessment of suitability for admission on the programme. First year Ph.D. students are required to take the compulsory Legal Research Methods course and as a taught component classes for the course may be offered in the evening.
2. MASTER OF LAWS DEGREE, LL.M (BY RESEARCH)
Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia or any other recognized university with merit or its equivalent. Applicants will also be subjected to an interview to complete assessment of suitability for admission on the programme. First year LL.M students by Research are required to take the compulsory Legal Research Methods course and as a taught component classes for the course may be offered in the evening.
3. ONE YEAR FULLTIME TAUGHT PROFESSIONAL MASTER OF LAWS DEGREE (LL.M)
- THE CLASSES FOR THIS DEGREE ARE HELD IN THE EVENING.
The programme offers options for specialisation in Commercial law and Constitutional Law.
It is designed for those in practice who are interested in sharpening their legal skills.
Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia or any other recognized university.
*Graduates of this program do not proceed to PhD.
4. POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN WOMEN, GENDER AND THE LAW
THE CLASSES FOR THIS DIPLOMA ARE OFFERED IN THE EVENING
(i) Applicants must possess a minimum of a basic degree in a relevant field. Provided preference may be given to applicants with relevant experience in the field of gender or related fields; and
(ii) Applicants should have the ability to work with both legal and non-legal materials in the English language.

Application forms are available on the University of Zambia website at < https://www.unza.zm/academics/study-at-unza/postgraduates > or can be obtained in person from the School of Law or the Customer Care office, UNZA Great East Road Campus.
Completed application forms should be accompanied with the original bank deposit slip confirming payment of the non-refundable application fee of K150.00 for Zambians and USD60.00 for non-Zambians. Payment for application forms should be made by depositing the application fee into Account Number 0100110273800 Standard Chartered Bank.
Application forms must be submitted together with the relevant referee forms, certified copies of relevant academic and professional certificates and ‘O’ Level certificate with a pass or better in English as evidence of proficiency in the English language.
The language of instruction at the University of Zambia is English.
Admission to a programme is subject to availability of places.
