Youth and Community Development Uganda Job Opportunities 2024
Youth and Community Development is excited to invite applications for young professionals to take part in our international youth exchange programme in the year 2024. The successful candidates shall work in Uganda and Norway.
Youth and Community Development Organisation (YouthCode) is a local youth-serving, non-profit making and non-partisan entity founded on 25 November 1997. The organisation since 2006 started a cooperation with Flora Upper Secondary School (FUSS) of Norway. In addition, the organisation is in partnership with the Uganda Youth Skills Training Organisation (UYSTO) based in Kampala, Uganda.
The partners are involved in a mutual exchange cooperation that is supported by the Norwegian Agency for Exchange Cooperation (NOREC). Given this, the organisation intends to recruit participants who shall take part in the international exchange for 12 months in Uganda and Norway.
Youth and Community Development Uganda Job Opportunities 2024 Below are the positions;
Participant 1: Assistant Instructor in Fabrication and Welding based in Norway
Participants’ Tasks, assignments and activities while on the exchange
- Participate in training related to curriculum for students to improve basic technical vocational skills education.
- Tutoring of students in cooperation with vocational skills teachers following the curriculum.
- Entrepreneurship activities and vocational skills training related to both in-school training and after-school activities
- Bring English into the working environment in the classes and workshops.
- Participate in organising and implementing the school’s international activities.
- Work with partners of the school.
- Transfer of vocational skills at sending partners organisation upon return through training, mentoring and workshops.
Professional background and experience of participant:
- Experience in teaching vocational skills like fabrication and welding
- Professional experience in the above-mentioned skill
- A minimum Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) and Minimum City and Guilds grade 1 certificate / advanced diploma from a recognized institution.
- Those with a degree in the above field shall have an added advantage
Participant 2: School Environmental Worker based in Norway.
- Shall work in the cantina to help prepare food and catering
- Shall be linked to entrepreneurship activities as a mentor to student-run enterprises and/or the school’s international committee.
- Shall be a part of international events at the school and raise awareness of international cooperation.
- Shall transfer the skills at sending partners organisation upon return through training, mentoring and workshops.
- Shall mentor upcoming participants to ensure continuity in the project
- Shall prepare monthly reports and submit them to the project coordinator before the 10th day of every month.
Academic Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, and food production.
- Those with a degree in social development work shall also be considered
- The candidate should have work-related experience in catering, food production and social and development work
Participant 3: Vocational Skills Instructor, Carpentry and Joinery based at UYSTO Uganda.
Participants tasks, assignments and activities while on the exchange
- Shall train, monitor and evaluate students in carpentry and joinery at UYSTO vocational skills centre
- Shall work to improve the quality of vocational skills education about the curriculum.
- Shall produce and market products made from the vocational skills centre in cooperation with other members’ staff.
- Shall be involved in entrepreneurship training through a practical approach to income-generating activities.
- Shall be involved in planning and administration in cooperation with other members of staff at UYSTO.
- Shall together with students, conduct tool/equipment simple maintenance and refurbishment.
- Shall prepare monthly reports of his/her work and submit them to the coordinator for both hosting and sending organisation before the 10th day of every month
Experience and Qualifications
- 3 years’ experience in carpentry and joinery work
- Those with teaching experience in carpentry and joinery shall have an added advantage.
- Professional experience in the above-mentioned skill
- A minimum Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) and Minimum City and Guilds grade I certificate / advanced diploma from a recognized institution.
- Those with a degree in any other relevant field and professional experience shall have an added advantage.
Participant 4: Entrepreneurship Advisor based at UYSTO
- Shall train the apprentice in entrepreneurship at UYSTO centre.
- Shall supervise apprentices as required by the technical vocational regulator access and file for final students ‘reports.
- Shall establish partnerships, link students to apprenticeship positions in other local development partner institutions and advise on the creation of self-employment opportunities.
- Shall be involved in creating income-generating activities (IGA’s) for UYSTOS students and its attached partners.
- Shall link students to other partners to secure employment opportunities
- Shall facilitate the formation and follow-up of UYSTO former students’ production working groups
- Shall organise students’ learning trips/tours related to training courses at the centre in collaboration with other members of staff
- Shall be involved in planning and administration in cooperation with other staff at UYSTO.
- Shall prepare monthly reports of his/her work/department and submit them to the coordinator before the 10th day of every month
Academic Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Entrepreneurship obtained from a reputable institution.
- 3 years of working experience.
Personal qualities required of the participants:
- Able to recognize a need and to find solutions.
- Results-oriented and vigor.
- Ability or will to adapt to challenging cultural differences.
- To be a good motivator.
- Fluent in English, both written and oral.
- Be within 22-35 years, cf. NOREC policies
